“Summer JAM gave me
the chance to connect to a community of my Jewish
peers in a way I hadn’t been lucky enough to experience before. I gained a lot intellectually, politically, socially, emotionally, and religiously. It was a terrific experience!”
- Ariel Linet
Boxborough, MA

At Summer JAM, you will not simply be a "consumer" of our program - you will be an active participant in creating the kind of group we will become. Community isn't something that just happens - it takes hours of hard work and a commitment to live with and learn from each other.

Covenant Groups are one important way that we build community. A covenant group is a small group of students that will meet 4 to 5 times a week with their mentor. The purpose is to create a safe space for processing all your experiences. Your covenant groups will be a microcosm of the larger JAM community - your own "home base." These meetings allow participants time to get to know each other on a deeper level, to support one another, and generally help to strengthen the group as a whole.

Mentors are young professionals and/or graduate students who have already begun to fulfill their commitment to  tikkun olam ("repairing the world").  Mentors live in the dorms alongside JAM participants and are the backbone of communal life at JAM.

Committees  All students take responsibility for serving on committees during JAM. Some possibilities include: Kef (free time and night activities), Kavannah (services), Shabbat, Ruach (singing), Yearbook, and Ba’olam (Tzedakah).
